Silver flowers
Silver Flowers is a photographic series that presents paradoxical images that revolve around appearance, reality, and fiction. Marta Sánchez's captures evoke herbariums and the early days of photography as an aid to botany: isolated views of specimens, morphological details, magnificent exemplars... However, the silver appearance of these flowers contrasts with their realism. The precious metal elevates them to the category of jewels, but at the same time takes away their breath, leaving only a fixed memory. Their beauty is transmuted by the touch of Midas, which brings us closer to the disturbance caused by death, while also reminding us of the challenge of art when attempting to capture life. But... what do these flowers represent? Are they real? The gaze suspects their definition and insists on finding the truth. Is the precious metal the trace of the daguerreotype or a mere painting that masks a fabricated reality? Through the uncertainty generated by her photographs, Sánchez updates the genre of still life: she explores the deceptive ambiguity of the world of images and, condensing many themes and tensions from the history of floral representation, provokes reflection on the blurry boundaries between reality and artifice.

Silver flowers es una serie fotográfica que presenta imágenes paradójicas que versan sobre la apariencia, la realidad y la ficción. Las capturas de Marta Sánchez recuerdan el herbario y los inicios de la fotografía como auxiliar de la botánica: vista aislada de los especímenes, detalle morfológico, ejemplares magníficos... En cambio, la apariencia plateada de estas flores contrasta con su verismo. El metal precioso las eleva a la categoría de joyas, pero al mismo tiempo les roba el aliento, que permanece fijado sólo como memoria. Su belleza queda transmutada por el toque de Midas, que nos acerca la turbación que provoca la muerte, y también nos recuerda el reto del arte cuando intenta captar la vida. Pero... ¿qué representan estas flores? ¿Son reales? La mirada sospecha de su definición e insiste en encontrar la verdad. ¿Es el metal precioso la huella del daguerrotipo o una simple pintura que enmascara una realidad fabricada? A través de la incertidumbre que generan sus fotografías, Sánchez actualiza el género de la naturaleza muerta: explora la ambigüedad engañosa del mundo de la imagen y, condensando muchos temas y tensiones de la historia de la representación floral, provoca la reflexión sobre los límites confusos entre realidad y artificio.
